VEGA Ohmart Nucleonic Services

Critical Examinations - When a new gauge is installed, it is a requirement of the UK (IRR1999) regulations that the installation is examined in consultation with a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA). The examination can be performed by the customer at the time of installation, or by our service engineer during commissioning and start-up of the gauge.

Expert commissioning for peace of mind - VEGA Controls offer a full commissioning, assistance and start-up advice for our comprehensive range of nucleonic (radiometric) gauges. Our service engineer will inspect the physical and electrical installation, perform formal radiation field surveys, leak tests and provide you with the documentation required to meet requirements of the ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR1999).

Source Registration - Although most of the sources supplied by VEGA Controls are not particularly large, there is a requirement that all sources supplied for use in the UK are registered with the Environment Agency. The application form is simple to complete and we will be pleased to provide any information and assistance you may require to complete the form.

Leak Testing - Leak tests (also known as wipe tests) are performed on the source holder to check the integrity of the source capsule. UK regulations require that the source should be tested at least every 24 months. The leak test service offered by VEGA Controls is performed by our engineer and a leak certificate will be issued to the customer to form part of the documentation that needs to be retained for each source.

Radiation Protection Advisor - It is a requirement of the UK (IRR1999) regulations that any employer using nucleonic (radiometric) gauges consults a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA).

Source Return / Disposal - Radioactive material, like any other hazardous material, must be disposed of correctly. VEGA Controls will accept the return of sources for reclamation if they have been supplied by VEGA Controls or VEGA Ohmart. We are able to provide general assistance and advice on disposal of any source held by a customer.
