PACTware™ is an universal adjustment program with which it is possible to adjust also sensors of other manufacturers. This is possible by a standardised interface description, the FDT concept (Field Device Tool). Through DTMs (Device Type Manager) adjustment via different bus protocols to the sensor is enabled. PACTware™ functions PACTware™ (Process Automation Configuration Tool) enables the adjustment of all field components such as HART® interface, segment coupler, Remote I/O and sensors, online as well as offline. With the suitable DTM for the appropriate component, all parameters and functions of an instrument are available. Apart from typical adjustment functions there are also service and diagnostics functions to ensure an optimum adaptation to the application. As all information is accessible, it is possible to use PACTware™ as an Asset Management Tool. | | | PACTware™ is manufacturer-independent. By means of the appropriate DTM, it is possible to adjust field devices of different manufacturers. Another advantage of the FDT concept is that it is independent of the communication protocol. HART®, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, Ethernet and also future transmission modes can be supported. FDT enables an adjustment from the control level. In the way PACTware™ builds the frame for the DTM’s, these DTM’s can also be integrated in control systems of other manufacturers. Access from the processing system via different field components to the sensor is possible. |
FDT - Field Device Tool FDT is a standardised interface description describing the interaction between the DTMs and the frame, e.g. PACTware™. FDT controls the data exchange between the different DTMs and the frame program. Similar to a browser in the internet which is needed to looked at a homepage, a frame program, such as PACTware™ is necessary to use a DTM. As varied as different homepages are, the DTM’s of other companies are too, in order to suit their optimum requirements. The data exchange however, is done in the same way. As the internet does via HTML, with sensors it is via the FDT interface. | |
DTM – Device Type Manager Like the printer driver in the office environment, the field instrument brings its own driver and user interface into the FDT environment. This driver is called the Device Type Manager (DTM), it comprises the complete data and function summerised in the field instrument device description. A DTM can cover a single instrument type or series of instruments. |
