Liquid Level Switches

For vibrating tuning fork level switches, the VEGASWING range of universal liquid level detection devices is one of the widest available, designed to be a fail safe, high level alarm its ideal for overfill protection. VEGASWING works in the harshest of environments with a broad selection of approvals, fittings and outputs.


A VEGASWING vibrating tuning fork level switch can be used on almost any liquid, from LPG to liquid chocolate. As a fail safe level switch it can be installed in any orientation, above, below or sideways even in pipework. Typical applications are in storage and processing.

VEGA have SIL 2 (IEC 61508/615011) conformance for VEGASWING level alarms, this is a special evaluation for high integrity applications. This means our liquid level switches have been tested for reliability and performance to ensure on hazardous products or processes they won’t let you down and fail safe. It also has “WHG” overfill certification, an environmental certification by TUV in Germany, sadly with no equivalent in the U.K. it is still a valid test to have passed! VEGASWING allows users to apply reliable, fail safe, high integrity level switch protection on almost any part of the process with one design. Utilising the principle of mechanical vibration of a tuning fork element, SWING is an active, self-checking device, so it can let you know if it’s not ready for its next task!

Designed in reliability…on a VEGASWING the main piezo drive vibrating the tuning fork is screwed together, many other similar devices the piezo drive is glued, which can cause reliability problems that are exacerbated by heating and temperature shocks weakening the adhesion.

 
  • Very cost effective, low maintenance, high reliability

  • Works in any orientation with a tuning fork of only 40 mm length
  • Small connection thread from ¾” and flanges from DN 25 (ANSI 1”)

  • Approved overfill device, “press to test” without raising the level, or removing the switch


The tuning fork is energized by a piezo crystal and vibrates at its resonant frequency of approximately 380Hz. A second crystal detects this frequency, which is then passed to the integral electronics. If the VEGASWING tuning fork is covered by liquid, the resonant frequency is reduced. This change is detected by the integral electronics and converted into a switch signal. Build up, even between the forks of a viscous liquid present no problem.
